BINTULU: Five residents escaped unscathed after their house along Mile 27 Bintulu-Miri Road was destroyed by fire yesterday (June 6)

The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said it received a distress call at 11.29 pm.

Eight firefighters from the Bintulu fire station and an additional six from the Samalaju fire station were deployed to the scene.

When the firefighters arrived at the scene the fire had engulfed about 90 per cent of the house.

“Utilising water sourced from a nearby pond, the firefighters extinguished managed to bring the flames under control and prevented it from spreading further.

“At present, the cause of the fire and the extent of damage are yet to be determined,” Bomba said in a statement.
