MIRI: A  fire, which engulfed six single-storey house in Taman Futee this morning, left 29 people homeless.

According to the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), the fire broke out at around 10.20 am, prompting an immediate response from multiple fire stations. Firemen from Lopeng, Miri Central and Lutong were quickly dispatched to the scene.

Upon arrival, the firefighters found all six homes covered in flames. Each house, approximately 20 by 30 feet in size, was completely destroyed. 

“Firefighters used two initial attack lines and three 100-foot hoses at the front, while the rear was tackled with two initial attack lines and two 100-foot hoses, drawing water from a nearby hydrant.

 The blaze was fully extinguished but the cause and extent of the damages were still under investigation.

The 29 affected residents included 12 men, 13 women, 2 boys, one girl and one  disabled man. Many residents were home at the time while others were away celebrating the Gawai Dayak festival.
