KUCHING: Eleven people have been rendered homeless after a fire gutted their house at Jalan Jambori, Stakan here yesterday.

A spokesman from the State Fire and Rescue Department said firefighters from Kota Samarahan and Batu Lintang fire stations were deployed to the scene after the department received a distress call at 12.34pm.

Upon arrival, firefighters found that the flame had completely destroyed the house.

However, the victims, comprising seven males and four females, were reported unharmed.

The operation ended at 2.58pm.

Separately, the Kampung Melayu, Balai Ringin temporary flood relief centre which housed 10 flood victims from three families after their houses were affected by a flood, has been closed at 10.30am yesterday after it was opened on Friday.

All flood victims including the children and elderly have returned safely to their respective houses.

Heavy downpour had caused overflow and affected the low-lying areas.
