Fire leaves family of four homeless

KUCHING: Four members of a family were lucky to escape unhurt after their wooden house in Lorong 13, Chawan Road went up in flames at 10.15 pm on Thursday night.

House owner Lin, 51, his wife and two sons were sleeping when they heard cracking noises and Lin shouted to them to get out when he saw the house burning. He and his family managed to push away a car
and a motorcycle. Two other motorcycles which were parked nearer to the house were totally burned.

Lin said he and his family had been staying there for over 10 years. Their electricity supply was from their own generator set, he said.

He could not estimate how much he lost in the fire. Firemen were still estimating the loss and cause of the fire at press time.

Fire and Rescue Services department received a distress call at 22.19 pm and two fire engines and 20 firemen from both Tabuan Jaya and Padungan rushed to the scene to help.

The house was almost entirely burned when they reached the scene.
