MIRI: A total of 27 doors from an 85-door longhouse in Kampung Long Wat in Apoh Baram were destroyed by an early morning fire today (July 9).
According to Miri Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) in a statement, they received a call pertaining to the incident from Long Lama police station at 5.19am.
Prior to the call, the state Bomba operation centre had already received an emergency call from the longhouse’s chief at 1.33am.
It was reported that he had to go to Long Bedian to make the phone call as there was no cellular network in their village (Kampung Long Wat).
Villagers managed to put out the fire at 2.30am, and no casualties were reported.
Meanwhile, a team of Marudi firefighters has been deployed to the scene on board a ferry at 6am.
It took about five hours to drive via logging roads to reach the longhouse.
