MUKAH: A family of six were left homeless after their single-storey house in Kampung Badengan, was partially destroyed in a morning fire today (Oct 24).

Fortunately, no injuries or casualties were reported in the 10.35 am incident as the tenants were not present at the time of the tragedy.

A spokesman for the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said firefighters from Mukah station were deployed to the scene, about 33km away, after receiving a distress call.

Upon arrival, they saw the villagers helped to extinguish the fire using buckets of water sourced from the drain.

The team took over the scene to extinguish the remaining embers and brought the situation under control at 11.10 am.

It was reported that the flames had caused 70 per cent damages to the house, which is under the Hard-core Poor Housing Project (PPRT).

Once the situation was deemed safe and there is no risk of reignition, the team ended the operation at 11.40 am.

The cause of the fire and the losses incurred are still under investigation.
