DALAT: The upper floor of a double-storey corner shophouse in Pasar Dalat, was engulfed in flames yesterday, destroying the living quarters and damaging the shops below.
A spokesman for the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said firefighters from Mukah station and Dalat auxiliary firefighters were dispatched to the scene after receiving a distress call at 10.35 am.
Upon arrival, they found the fire raging and began extinguishing work using a nearby open water source.
The flames, which were brought under control at 11.30 am, completely destroyed the upper floor. The ground-floor eatery and grocery store suffered 80 per cent and 10 per cent damages respectively.
Fortunately, no injuries or casualties were reported in the incident.
Once the situation was deemed safe and there was no risk of reignition, the team ended the operation at 1.08 pm.
The cause of the fire and losses incurred are still under investigation
