KUCHING: A fire destroyed nearly 90 per cent of a single-storey terrace house at Taman Matang Jaya here yesterday.
The Fire and Rescue Department Sarawak received an emergency call at 4.11 pm, and a team from the Petra Jaya Fire and Rescue Station was dispatched to the scene and was assisted by the Batu Lintang Fire and Rescue team.
According to firefighters, upon arrival, the fire had already spread, consuming most of the 25 x 40 square-foot house.
Firefighters successfully contained the blaze using a 300-foot hose line and two nozzles. The fire was fully extinguished by 5.45 pm, including overhaul work to ensure all embers were put out.
A house next to it also sustained minor damage to the ceiling of its parking area, caused by the blaze.
No injuries or casualties were reported, as all occupants managed to escape before the fire spread.
The cause of the fire and the total amount of losses are still under investigation.
