BELAGA: A government quarters here was destroyed in a fire yesterday morning.

Bintulu Fire Station chief, Di-Hatta Gobel said only a four-door quarters was destroyed in the 5.00am incident.

“Only the front section of the building was destroyed by the fire. A team of personnel from the Belaga Voluntary Firefighting Unit managed to bring the fire under control and prevented the flames from spreading to the kitchen area of the same building,” he said.

Meanwhile, 15 families were made homeless after a Kenyah longhouse at Uma Badeng, Sg Koyan, Sungai Asap here was destroyed by fire on Tuesday. 

Di-Hatta said his men from Bintulu and Samalaju fire stations rushed to the scene to put out the flames after receiving a distress call at 5.38pm.

He said the firefighters from Sungai Asap Voluntary Firefighting Units managed to contain the fire from spreading to nearby structures.

The fire was brought under control at 6.23pm.

Di-Hatta confirmed that only one 15-door block was razed in the incident and said no casualties and injuries were reported.

He said the estimated loss and actual cause of fire had yet to be determined.
