SIBU: Two longhouse blocks at Pasai Siong Tengah here were destroyed in a fire on Monday (Oct 19).
The fire involved Rumah Jelian Nayor (28 doors) and Rumah Langi Ambau (21 doors).
According to the State Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) operations centre, a distress call on the incident was received at 1.54pm.
Following the call, a team of firefighters of Sungai Merah and Sibu fire stations, led by PKPgB Suna Kaha, was deployed to the scene.
“48 units of the longhouses were destroyed while one survived the fire.
“The overall damaged percentage of the longhouses is estimated at 80 percent. The distance between the two longhouses is three metres,” said a Bomba spokesperson.
The fire also destroyed 15 motorcycles, three cars, a three-tonne truck and a van.
The fire was brought under control at 3.05pm and there were no reports of injuries.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
