SARIKEI: Fire safety awareness in schools is important to protect lives and property, said Sarikei Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) chief Mahmudin Naruddin.
“The education programme conducted by Sarikei Fire Station is suitable for people from all walks of life including pre-schoolers,” he told reporters.
“At the same time, participants are provided with information on security measures and preventive measures during emergencies,” he added.
Recently, JBPM Sarikei held a fire safety talks and fire extinguisher demonstration at St Clement’s Kindergarten.
The programme, attended by 208 students and 11 teachers, was to ensure safety in the school environment.
According to Mahmudin, the knowledge gained can be utilised any time, especially during a disaster.
During the fire extinguisher demonstration at St Clement’s Kindergarten, the children, he said, learnt how to use the fire extinguisher correctly.
He said the demonstration was conducted under the supervision of a Senior Fire Officer II and assisted by two members.
“If the safety aspect is emphasised, then we can avoid or reduce the risk of fire,” he explained.
