Fire sets house ablaze, leaves owner homeless

A semi-permanent double-storey house was 100 percent gutted by fire at Kampung Hilir, Sri Aman yesterday.

KUCHING: A fire broke out at a double-storey house at Kampung Hilir, Sri Aman yesterday but was put out before it spread to nearby houses.

According to the state Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), a total of 14 firefighters from Sri Aman fire station was dispatched to the scene after receiving the distress call at 12.21pm.

“At the scene, the Sri Aman fire station applied the firebreak technique to prevent the fire from spreading to nearby houses.

“The semi-permanent structure was 100 percent gutted by the flames by the time firefighters arrived at the scene, while two nearby houses were both destroyed five percent by the fire.

“The blaze was brought under control within minutes and the fire was completely extinguished in less than an hour,” the statement said.

It was learnt that the fully gutted house belonged to Jamel Tuah while two other houses were owned by Abang Ashaari Abang Aing and Saifudin Levey respectively.

The firemen managed to douse the fire completely at 12.45pm, and the operation ended at 1.25pm.

No injuries were reported in the incident while cause of the fire has yet to be ascertained.
