SIBU: The Sungai Merah Fire and Rescue station treated its staff and their family members to its maiden Hari Raya open house held at its branch here on Friday.

The ceremony was officiated by Deputy Resident of Sibu Division, Christopher Ranggau Unting. During the event, he also distributed ‘duit raya’ to 15 firefighters’ children.

In his opening speech, Sungai Merah Fire and Rescue Station Chief, Abdul Mutalif Ja’afar said this event was the first of its kind since the establishment of the Sungai Merah Fire and Rescue Station in 2005.

He hoped this programme could become a tradition for the Sungai Merah Fire and Rescue Station for the years to come.

“It is our hope that this event can provide an opportunity for all Fire and Rescue Department personnel and invited guests to strengthen ties while enjoying some refreshments. Indirectly, foster a sense of family spirit and strengthen unity among us.

“During Hari Raya, it is the best opportunity to strengthen cooperation among individuals, departments, and agencies,” he added.
