BALINGIAN: Victims of two recent fire incidents here and in Mukah received aid from the Federation of Melanau Association Sarawak (PPMS) and Saberkas Balingian branch (SB).
PPMS executive committee (exco)member Abdul Yakub Arbi, who is also chairman of Mukah Melanau Association (PMM) and SB, handed over the aid to the victims in Kampung Lintang, Balingian, and Kampung Mateding Kecil, Mukah at a simple ceremony on Tuesday (May 18).
Abdul Yakub, the Balingian assemblyman, said the contribution from the two NGOs should help lessen the burden of the affected families.
“We also pray and hope that they will remain strong during this difficult time,” he said.
Mukah district officer Shafrie Saili, PPMS executive secretary Royston Valentine, state Saberkas exco Muhd Tarmizi Karnain, SB deputy chairman Haffizul Abdul Halim and PMM exco Ardyman Matan were present during the handover.
The donations were given to five house owners in Kampung Lintang, and a family in Kampung Mateding Kecil.
The fire in Kampung Lintang on May 12 destroyed three houses, while two others were damaged.
In the Kampung Mateding Kecil fire on May 17, three families were left homeless after a double-storey semi-concrete house was razed.
Fortunately, no one was injured in the two incidents.
Meanwhile, the fire victim in Kampung Lintang, Mahdar Ahmad Sunik expressed his appreciation to Abdul Yakub and the Mukah district office for the assistance.
Another victim in Kampung Mateding Kecil, Jauyah Jelihi also thanked the NGOs for the donation.
Fire broke out in Kampung Lintang, Balingian on May 12, destroying three houses and damaging two others.
Meanwhile, another fire occurred in Kampung Mateding Kecil on May 17 and completely razed a house.
