KUCHING: Firefighters managed to prevent a major fire incident in an office at the Kuching Port Authority Pending Terminal yesterday (July 30).

The firemen from Tabuan Jaya and Padungan stations were dispatched to the scene after receiving an emergency call around 4.29 pm.

No injuries or casualties were reported as all the occupants managed to evacuate the building.

Upon arrival, the team found smoke billowing from the first floor of the building before proceeding to commence extinguishing works.

The fire was traced to the IT and QC manager’s room, where it had affected PVP pipes in the ceiling.

Firefighters put out the flames and ventilated the building to clear the smoke.

Once the situation was deemed safe and there was no risk of reignition, the teams ended the operation at 5.03 on.

The cause of the fire is still being investigated.
