Zone 6 Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) chief Andy Alie said firefighters from Sibu Jaya station were deployed to the scene, about 2km away, after receiving an emergency call at 10.09 am.

“Upon arrival, they confirmed that the fire involved a pile of used tyres in a lorry factory and no structural damages were reported.

“The team had to gain access to the scene by cutting the locks of the gate with bolt cutters to perform the extinguishing deed using water sourced from a nearby fire hydrant,” he said.

Andy added that the flames, causing five per cent damage to used lorry tyres and an air compressor, were also prevented from spreading to another factory.
