KUCHING: The Padungan Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) has been carrying disinfecting commercial areas in response to requests from the Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Kuching branch.
SUPP Kuching branch treasurer, Jong Yean Pin said the requests were made in view of the rising number of Covid-19 positive cases here and the commercial areas included Jalan Padungan, Jalan Abell, Jalan Ang Cheng Ho and other places in Padungan.
“An effective disinfection will not only reduce the Covid-19 transmission but also contribute to the peace of mind of the shopkeepers and customers who patronise their shops,” he said in a statement yesterday (Sept 12).
Jong also called on the public to continue adhering to the standard operating procedures (SOPs) set by the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC).
He said this was to curb the spread of Covid-19 and to ensure that the surrounding environment was safe.
He thanked Padungan Bomba and handed over personal protective equipment (PPE) and masks to its deputy chief, Awang Effendi.
“These items are essential as disinfection work requires a lot of daily protection to keep the team safe,” he added.
