KUCHING: A tanker collided with a lorry in Jalan Bako here on Monday, trapping the driver of the tanker inside.

He was freed later by firefighters, who responded to an emergency call at 9.06am.

“Eleven firefighters from the Tabuan Jaya Fire and Rescue Station were despatched to the location. The operation was led by PBK II Iskandar Apet, PBK II KUP Awang Iskandar and operations commander TPgB Mohamad Meramit.

“Upon arrival at the scene, the operations commander reported that the driver of the tanker was stuck inside his vehicle while the lorry driver was unharmed.

“The tanker driver was conscious and firefighters began work to free him,” the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department said in a statement today.

No oil spill occurred during the incident. However, there was a slight oil leakage believed to be engine oil from the tanker’s engine.
