BINTULU: A primary school student encountered a distressing situation after his right leg was trapped in a metal drain cover along Jalan Kampung Baru, Masjid Darul Salam today (Apr 24).
The boy endured about 15 minutes of discomfort before being extricated from the drain cover by rescuers.
A spokesman for the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said firefighters from Bintulu station were deployed to the scene, about 11km away, after receiving a distress call around 12.50pm.
Upon arrival, they found that the boy had fallen through the drain cover trapping his right leg.
The team used rescue tools to widen the metal bars to allow the boy’s leg to be freed.
Once the boy was safe, the team ended the operation around 1.05pm.
