MIRI:  Seven firemen from Miri Central fire station were deployed to help battle wildfire at Jalan Marina Bay on Sunday afternoon (May 2).

Zone six fire chief Supt Law Poh Kiong said the wildfire burned five acres of land near the newly opened Miri Fish Market and Pullman Hotel Miri.

He added the firemen were despatched to the scene at 1.39pm after a distress call by a member of the public

The firefighters managed to contain the fire at 3.05pm with the help of various agencies such as the police, the Natural Resources and Environment Board Sarawak (NREB) and Marina Parkcity’s developer, Pantai Bayu Indah Sdn Bhd.

The operations ended at 3.20pm.
