KUCHING: Two double-storey houses at separate locations were burnt to the ground last Sunday.

The fires happened at Kampung Segali, Simunjan and Jalan Bakong-Meradong, Bintangor.

A spokesman from the State Fire Department operations centre stated that no casualties were reported in both cases.

The first fire in Kampung Segali happened at a salted egg processing premises around 10.40pm last Sunday (May 9). 

Firemen from Simunjan station deployed to the scene arrived to find the premises had already been destroyed.

The team faced difficulties during the extinguishing operation as they had to use water from a ditch. There was no fire hydrant at the scene.

The second fire at Jalan Bakong-Meradong, which happened around 4.30 am on Monday (May 10), broke out at an uninhabited house.

Bintangor firemen, who were despatched to the scene, successfully extinguished the flames. 

The causes of the fires in both cases are unknown yet.
