KUCHING: The first unit of the Autonomous Rapid Transit (ART) vehicle is expected to arrive here in the third quarter of this year.
Transport Minister Datuk Seri Lee Kim Shin said the ART is undergoing several minor changes in its design at the manufacturing plant in China.
Lee revealed that the ART will have Sarawak colours on it.
“By the third quarter of this year, we should be able to get the first unit. We will go there, check and do a test run.
“We (the Transport Ministry) will do a test run and (if) we are satisfied and quite happy then it will be shipped to Sarawak,” he told a press conference at the Sarawak State Legislative Assembly (DUN) on Monday (May 13).
He said the first unit of the ART will arrive between August and October.
“The final version of the ART will be different, we have to do some testing on the ART. We are expecting a final version this year.
“The ART might be a new generation, but for Sarawak we will make some changes, currently it is at the manufacturing plant,” he said.
In November last year, the ART underwent a proof-of-concept (POC) exercise until Dec 15.
Around 38 ART vehicles ordered by Sarawak will be delivered in phases.
