KUCHING: Sarawak claimed its maiden gold medal at the SUKMA today (Aug 18) when Dayang Nurulnuhaa Fasihah Abang Misbahhuddin triumphed in the women’s shooting petanque event.
The 18-year-old defeated Federal Territory’s Nur Arissa Qasreena Ratinan 29-27 to secure the top prize at the Santubong Petanque Arena.
Nur Arissa settled for silver, while Johor’s Norissyakila Mohamed Sani took bronze.
Adding to the occasion, the medal ceremony was graced by Women, Family, and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri, who is also Santubong MP.
Also present was Daro assemblyman and assistant chef de mission (ACDM) for petanque, Safiee Ahmad.
In the semi-finals, Dayang Nurulnuhaa edged out fellow Sarawakian Fatin Raifana Abdul Rahman 24-8 to set up the final clash.
Fatin Raifana eventually claimed bronze after losing 26-29 to the Federal Territory.
Meanwhile, Melaka’s Khairul Amirul Zamrulhisham emerged champion in the men’s shooting category, with Selangor’s Ayzek Hakimi Safingan and Pahang’s Muhammad Harith Muhaimin Hafaizul securing silver and bronze respectively.
