KUCHING: Members of the armed forces received their first round of Pfizer-Biontech Covid-19 vaccine at the Third Infantry Brigade, Kem Perissen here today.
“A total of 120 soldiers and air force personnel received their first doses this morning,” said 1 Division Commander Major General Datuk Dzulkafli Mustaffa after his own vaccination to initiate the immunisation programme for the Armed Forces at Bukavu Hall.
“We received 7,020 doses of the vaccine for 3,510 army personnel across the Eastern Field.
“Our priorities are the health staff, army personnel in red zones and those operating near the Malaysia-Indonesia border,” he said.
He also mentioned that soldiers in Sabah serving under Ops Teras and Ops Benteng will have their vaccines.
Major General Dzulkafli, on behalf of Army Eastern Field Commander Lieutenant General Datuk Mardzuki Muhammad, also said the vaccines had been moved to three locations across Sarawak.
“This morning we sent the vaccines to Sibu, Bintulu and Miri for our personnel there.
“We know that Sibu is still a red zone, which is our priority. We have personnel in Miri who need the vaccine because they will move to Sabah on operation in April.
“When the others return from their operations, they will be vaccinated in the second phase of immunisation,” said Major General Dzulkafli.
Also present were Third Infantry Brigade commander Brigadier General Datuk Azhar Ahmad and other army senior officers.
