MUKAH: A total of 50 participants comprising the fishing community and the Mukah head of networking, Fisheries Department attended the 4th Fisheries Management Plan Programme through Ecosystem Approach (EAFM) here on Thursday (July 7).
According to the head of Fisheries Region II Sibu, Norasmah Mantali, the EAFM plan was a platform to realise the objectives and action plans agreed upon with the department’s stakeholders, government agencies, non-governmental organisations and the fishing community towards sustainable resource management, especially in Mukah.
“A briefing by Fisheries officers related to the strengthening of EAFM, and a briefing on endangered marine life species, were held.
“Proper resource allocation is important in improving fish production. At the same time, it is important for all to protect the environment to prevent marine habitat degradation,” she said.
Norasmah said EAFM was implemented in three main locations, including Mukah, in Sarawak and that the fishermen had given their cooperation through the sharing of knowledge, problems and suggestions.
“We are also trying to find solutions to issues raised by the fishermen through related agencies, to help them in increasing their income and the sustainability of marine resources.”
This programme was held for fishermen and related agencies to discuss and find solutions to issues that were raised during the previous EAFM in 2021.
