SIBU: Thirty-five fishermen participated in the Kursus Keselamatan Nelayan (KESAN) Siri 1 Wilayah 2 Mukah 2023, organised by Lembaga Kemajuan Ikan Malaysia (LKIM) here from Oct 24 to 26.
The participants comprised members from fishermen’s associations in Pulau Bruit, Mukah, Belawai and Matu Daro.
According to LKIM ChairmanMuhammad Faiz Fadzil, the programme is a platform for fishermen to learn basic search and rescue (SAR) operation techniques.
“With your participation in today’s training course, you become SAR volunteers in your respective areas.
“My advice is that while assisting the fire department in conducting Search and Rescue (SAR) operations, prioritise personal safety,” he said in his speech when officiating at the programme’s closing ceremony at a renowned hotel here today.
Muhammad Faiz also thanked the fishermen for their endless contributions to the country.
“The services and sacrifices of fishermen should be appreciated as they contribute to the nation’s food supply.
“Fishermen are the hope of 32 million Malaysians who depend on their catches.
“Fishermen are willing to leave their families and face the ocean’s storms to provide a true service to the nation,” he said.
Also present were LKIM director Mohamad Rizal Sahari and Fire and Rescue Department Zone 4 chief Andy Alie.
