BINTULU: Narcotics police here arrested five men on suspicion of engaging in drug activities around town yesterday.

According to Bintulu OCPD Supt Batholomew Umpit, the suspects are locals aged between 25 and 42, believed to be involved in drug distribution.

One of them will be investigated under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for possessing 0.8g of drugs believed to be syabu.

The suspects and drugs were taken to the police station for further action. All five suspects will be investigated under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 after they tested positive for drugs.

He said the arrest was one of successful efforts by the police in addressing as well as solving problems of drug abuse and preventing criminal activities in the district.

The local police chief also advised the public to channel any information related to drugs in the district to the Bintulu police operations room by calling 086-318304.
