BAU: Five men suspected of being under the influence of drugs took to their heels when they saw police approaching during a raid at Jalan Lama Siniawan here on Monday (Aug 9).

District police chief, DSP Poge Nyaon said a team from the Bau Narcotics Crime Investigation Department (NCID) carried out the raid at an abandoned hut in the area at around 4pm as part of ‘Ops Tapis’.

He said intelligence gathered by the team found there were five suspicious men gathering in the hut.

“The five suspects fled the scene after realising the presence of the police. However, they were apprehended shortly and examined by the team.

“Inspection was also carried out at the hut which is believed to be used as a resting place and a drug den,” Poge said in a statement today (Aug 10).

He added all the suspects were taken to the Bau District Police Headquarters (IPD) where they tested positive for methamphetamine.

He added that preliminary investigations found all the suspects received their supplies of drugs before gathering at the scene.

The police team destroyed the hut to prevent it from being used as a hotbed for drug abuse activities.

All the suspects aged 22 to 33 were remanded for further investigation under Section 15 (1) (a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

“If convicted, they can be fined up to RM5,000 or jailed for two years,” explained Poge.
