KUCHING: An unemployed man was sentenced to five months in prison on Monday (May 24) after pleading guilty to burglary.

Magistrate Zaiton Anuar ordered 22-year-old Sarmin Kelang, 22, to serve his sentence at the Puncak Borneo prison.

The accused was charged under Section 457 of the Penal Code.

According to the complainant’s report, at 11 am on May 7 at Taman Stutong Baru, Jalan Satria Jaya Baru, when he was picking up his newspaper, he noticed that the main door to the kindergarten next to his house was open.

The complainant discovered that the kindergarten’s door had been forcibly opened and after further inspection, it was discovered that a Coway water machine worth RM4,000 was gone.

A team of police officers from Tabuan apprehended the culprit at Lorong Stutong with the stolen item at 12.30 pm on May 8.

The culprit was apprehended based on video footage from a CCTV in the kindergarten area.
