MIRI: Five persons, including an elderly man have been arrested for alleged involvement in a revenge attack against a security guard at an oil palm plantation in Niah last Sunday.
The arrest was made at an oil palm plantation in Bukit Peninjau, Subis, by a team of Miri criminal investigation department personnel (CID) on Tuesday (Feb 9).
Miri police chief ACP Hakemal Hawari said among the five detained was a grandfather of last Sunday’s assault victim.
Police seized a wooden stick concealed inside a car belonging to the grandfather, aged 56.
It is learnt that prior to their arrests on Tuesday night, they had confronted and attacked a security guard of the oil palm estate in Niah, purportedly to avenge last Sunday’s assault of a 22-year-old man.
In the attack on Sunday, the 22-year-old sustained injuries on his body after he was attacked with wooden stick and bare hands by several individuals believed to security guards of an oil palm plantation.
The assault has since gone viral in social media and had angered the public including the victim’s family members.
Commenting on the incidents, Hakemal urged members of the public to practise restraint and think wisely before taking the law into their own hands.
“It is an offence punishable under the Penal Code,” he warned.
