KUCHING: Five new Covid-19 deaths were recorded in the state on Tuesday (May 18), bringing the death toll to 230.
State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) said three of the death cases were reported in Kapit district and the rest in Sibu district.
It said the 226th death involved a 51-year-old local woman who had been placed in a quarantine centre as a close contact to a positive case.
“The case was found unconscious and referred directly to Sibu Hospital for further treatment. Swabs taken on May 10 were positive for Covid-19. Her health deteriorated and she died on May 13. The case had comorbidities of high blood pressure and asthma,” it said today.
The 227th death is of a 64-year-old local man who had been treated at Kapit Hospital for shortness of breath.
SDMC said the case was found to have symptoms of cough and fever for the past four days and was found positive for Covid-19 on May 7.
“His health condition deteriorated and was confirmed to have died on May 15,” it said, adding that the case had a history of diabetes and dyslipidaemia.
The 228th death involved a 73-year-old local man who was also treated at Kapit Hospital for shortness of breath.
“The case was found to have symptoms of cough for the past two days and tested positive on May 14. He died on May 16 and he had comorbidities of high blood pressure, gout and chronic kidney disease.”
Similar to the 227th and 228h death cases, the 229th death involving a 73-year-old local woman was also treated at the Kapit Hospital for shortness of breath.
The committee said the case had cough symptoms for the past two days and had tested positive for Covid-19 on May 12.
Her health continued to deteriorate and she died on May 16, said SDMC, adding that she had a history of heart disease, hypertension and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
Meanwhile, the 230th death is of a 71-year-old local woman who was placed at the Covid-19 low-risk treatment centre (PKRC) in Sibu district after testing positive on May 3 during screening of close contacts to a Covid-19 positive case.
“The case was referred directly to Sibu Hospital due to weakness and vomiting and diarrhoea. She died on May 18 and had a history of high blood pressure and diabetes.
“SDMC extends its condolences to all family members of the victims,” said the committee.
