THE upgrading of Jalan Batu Kitang towards Jalan Stephen Yong into four lanes was part of the proposed Kuching Inner Ring Road under package D.
Deputy Minister for Infrastructure & Port Development (Infrastructure Development) Aidel Lariwoo (GPS-Sadong Jaya) said the design has been completed and the construction of the proposed road will be submitted under the Mid Term Review in 2023 for consideration.
He said this when replying to Lo Khere Chiang’s (GPS-Batu Kitang) question regarding any plans to upgrade the Jalan Batu Kitang towards Jalan Stephen Yong at the DUN sitting held here today (May 20).
Aidel also said the Public Works Department (JKR) will submit the remaining packages for the proposed Kuching Inner Ring Road for consideration and to increase the 12 Malaysia Plan ceiling under the Mid Term Review.
He said the department will proceed to tender upon receiving approval on the remaining packages.
To date, he said that five packages had been proposed, where two packages are currently under construction. Meanwhile, another three packages have completed the design and ready for tender.
“The ongoing project is the upgrading of 7.75km long existing single carriageway to dual carriageway from Mardi/Jalan Sultan Tengah to Demak/Gersik roundabout.” he explained.
He added that the construction costing at RM65.88 million is expecting completion on July 2, 2023.
“Another (ongoing) project involves the upgrading of 12.5km existing carriageway to dual carriageway, and three new numbers of reinforced concrete bridges at Sungai Semenggok, Sungai Keranji and Sungai Kuap from Mile 8, Kuching-Serian Road, to Kuching Outer Ring Road roundabout.
It costs RM179.88 million and expected to complete on June 9, next year,” he said.
