KUCHING: The 21st Malaysia Games (Sukma) has so far seen five Sarawak athletes listed as record breakers.
They are Ng Jing Xuan, Hii Puong Wei, Jonah Chang Rigan, Liew Yu Jie and Joey Tan Xing Lei.
The 20-year-old Jing Xuan set a new record in the women’s javelin event with a throw of 45.12 metres in the final, surpassing the previous record of 44.98 metres held by fellow Sarawakian Ho Sin Hui since Sukma 2008.
Meanwhile, Puong Wei set a new record in the men’s 200m backstroke, clocking in at 2:06.59s, earning him the gold medal. He broke the previous record of 2:07.02.
Jonah Chang, 20, achieved a new record in the shot put with a throw of 17.66 meters, surpassing the previous record of 17.31 meters set by Adi Aliffudin Husin in Melaka in 2010.
Additionally, archers Yu Jie and Joey set new records in the men and women’s 70m recurve events, respectively.
Yu Jie scored 334 points, breaking the previous record of 332 points, while Joey accumulated 325 points, surpassing the old record of 309 points.
