SIBU: The Sessions Court here today (Oct 20) sentenced a habitual offender to five years’ jail for consuming dangerous drug.

Judge Marutin Pagan also ordered Chan Kah Huo, 38, of Jalan Punai be given a stroke of the rotan.

In addition, Chan was ordered to report himself at Central Police Station, upon his release, on the first week, once every three months.

Chan had pleaded guilty to the charge framed under Section 15(1)(a) of Dangerous Drug Act 1952 (Act 234) and punishable under Section 39C (1) of the same Act which provides for an imprisonment term of not less than five years and not exceeding seven years as well as whipping of not more than three strokes.

Chan has had three previous convictions for similar offences.
