SARIKEI: Tanjong Manis MP, Yusuf Abdul Wahab, has called on the Ministry of Education Malaysia (MoE) to urgently address the condition of dilapidated schools in his constituency.

“Although one or two schools have been approved for upgrades and repairs, many others desperately need assistance from the Federal Government to improve their conditions and facilities,” he said in his speech during an incentive presentation ceremony for high achievers of the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) at the Tanjong Manis Service Centre today (July 15).

He also addressed the stalled construction of Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Penibong, that the project had been abandoned for about three years with no signs of resumption after the initial contractor left.

“I hope the MoE will address these issues and find ways to resume the project, as the abandoned site poses risks and dangers to the students,” he said.

Furthermore, Yusuf urged the ministry to build a new school due to the unsafe condition of the Sekolah Kebangsaan Orang Kaya Muda Pakeri building in Kampung Paloh.

“The poor condition of the school makes it difficult to accommodate students comfortably. These uncomfortable conditions affect the children’s learning and create difficulties in their studies,” he added.

The event celebrated the academic achievements of 32 students from the constituency who received excellence incentives.
