LAWAS: Residents of Kampung Patarikan, Merapok near here were alerted to a sudden rise in water level in the early hours today (Sept 22).

Lawas Fire and Rescue Station chief Zaki Husin said a team of firefighters were deployed to the location to monitor the condition and at the same time to ensure the safety of residents.

Zaki pointed out that the weather condition was fine and it was not raining at the time of the incident.

“Upon arrival at the scene, it was found that there was a flash flood.

“The water level rose due to the overflow of river water from Sindumin, Sabah that coincided with the high tide,” he said today.

He pointed out four members involving two fire engines were rushed to the flood location after receiving a report at 1.30am.

Zaki added that the situation was under control and there was no need for any evacuation.

“The water started receding at 3.22am and after it was found that the situation was safe, the firemen left for the station at 3.23am,” he added.
