KUCHING: Heavy rain yesterday afternoon flooded several low-lying areas here such as parts of Jalan Tun Abang Haji Openg, Padang Merdeka, Bako, Santubong, Kota Sentosa Bazaar and Petra Jaya.
Bomba and other departments are now monitoring the areas.
In Santubong, at least four villages were affected namely Kpg Sungai Batu, Kpg Sungai Dedaun, Kpg Sungai Lumut and Kampung Buntal.
By evening, 12 persons in two families at Kpg Sungai Batu had been evacuated to their village mosque which served as a temporary evacuation centre.
One family consists of two adults, two boys and a 14-day-old baby while the second family have three adults and four children.
In Kota Sentosa Bazaar, some shops were hit by about a foot of floodwaters.
