KUCHING: The vibrant melodies of The Band Lab’s flash mob performance echoed through The Spring Mall, creating a spectacle that drew in a crowd of approximately 100 shoppers and onlookers last Saturday.

Orchestrated by The Band Lab in collaboration with its latest initiatives, The Strings Lab and The Symphony Lab, the performance featured an ensemble of around 40 young musicians, breaking away from the conventional mould of traditional brass bands and orchestras.

In a statement, The Band Lab highlighted that the musical display not only treated the audience to beloved film favourites but also served as a call to for music enthusiasts to join The Band Lab’s expanding musical family.

“Beyond the performance, the flash mob served as a platform to foster the participation of individuals interested in joining The Band Lab, The Strings Lab, and The Symphony Lab.

“The goal is to expand the musical family, recruiting new members who share a passion for music.

“By showcasing universally cherished film music, the event targeted individuals who may not have had previous exposure to brass bands and orchestras, thereby providing an opportunity for music enthusiasts to explore diverse genres,” it said.

The carefully curated repertoire featured film favourites, including “Mission Impossible”, “My Favourite Things”, a brass quintet rendition of “Soon May the Wellerman Come” and a soulful performance of “I Will Always Love You” featuring local sensation Chien Ng.

Closing the performance on a high note, the group delivered a rendition of iconic tunes from “The Greatest Showman.”
