KUCHING: The works Ministry has come up with solutions to mitigate the flood and congestion issues that occur at the Pan Borneo Highway.

Deputy Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan said his minister would announce the solutions soon.

He said his ministry has received detailed briefings on the issues including the congestion issue in Pekan Jakar, Sarikei.

“I leave it to our minister to announce the decisions. Nevertheless, I assure you that there will be a good announcement made,” he said at a press conference after he visited SK Jalan Haji Baki site here today.

Asked about solutions by the Works Ministry on the accidents that have been occurring in the Pan Borneo Highway, he explained that based on studies made by the Transport Ministry, 80 percent of the road accidents were due to the negligence of drivers; condition of the road (13 percent); and faulty vehicles (seven percent).

“As such, our job in the ministry focuses on this 13 percent. Therefore, if any accidents were to occur due to this 13 percent, the ministry will do our best to fix it,” he assured.
