KUCHING: No flood victims are seeking shelter at temporary evacuation centres in the state after floodwaters have already subsided.
The Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) revealed that the remaining three centres as reported on Monday (Feb 8), were officially closed today.
Following good weather conditions in the state, all the affected families have been allowed to return home.
Last Tuesday (Feb 2), four districts in Sarawak, namely Tatau, Simunjan, Kota Samarahan and Serian, were hit by the third wave of floods which had rendered most places impassable by vehicles.
In that period, the state recorded 1,056 flood victims seeking refuge at temporary evacuation centres.
Various agencies such as the police, firefighters, Civil Defence Force (APM) and others, were monitoring the flood situations around the clock and assisted in the evacuation of affected victims.
Government agencies, state constituency service centres, as well as non-governmental organisations also assisted during that time by donating daily necessities and mattresses for the victims.
On a separate matter, SDMC pointed out that eight compounds were issued to errant individuals who failed to comply with the SOPs comprising five in Kuching, two in Padawan and one in Sibu.
Apart from that, the Ministry of Local Government issued 144 verbal, written, and seizure warnings in areas under the supervision of various local councils.
