LUNDU: Continuous heavy downpour since yesterday (Jan 25), has caused 56 individuals here to be evacuated to temporary relief centres (PPS).

The flood victims from 17 families are from Kampung Sebat Dayak and Kampung Sebat Melayu.

According to the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), the PPS at SK Sebat and Kampung Sebat Dayak Hall were opened in Wednesday night around 11.15 pm to house the flood victims.

As of noon today (Jan 26), the victims were still seeking shelter at the centres – 39 at SK Sebat PPS and 17 at Kampung Sebat Dayak Hall PPS.

Meanwhile, a spokesman from the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said monitoring carried out by Tabuan Jaya fire station had found about 30 houses and a kindergarten in Kampung Bako were inundated by flood waters.

However, no evacuation operation was carried out at the village.

In addition, monitoring by Petra Jaya fire station in Kampung Telaga Air also found that three houses were affected by flood waters.

The affected victims consisted of 16 adult men and women as well as seven children.

Nevertheless, all of them were not evacuated to any temporary relief centres.
