SIBU: People in flood-prone areas are urged to follow instructions issued by the local authorities.
Women, Family, and Community Development (KPWKM) Minister Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri said that it was to ensure their safety.
“For those who are in school, the Sarawak Civil Defence Force (APM) may allow learning at a temporary relief centre if they need a place to study.
“The important thing is that we need to follow their advice because we want those affected to be safe,” she said when met by reporters during Program Keusahawanan Wanita Bangkit@ KPWKM at Dewan Lakis, Masjid An-Nur here yesterday (Jan 26).
Nancy added that two relief centres have been opened in Sarawak so far — in Pantai Damai and Tanjung Datu.
“The Department of Social Welfare is always delivering aid such as food to flood victims.
“At the relief centres, there are volunteers who help evacuees and keep order.
“We want the place to be clean so that people are comfortable,” she said.
