SERIAN: Two villages in the Siburan area have been affected by floods due to continuous heavy rain which began last night.

The Civil Defence Force (APM) reported that by 12.30 am (Feb 3), heavy rain had caused water to rise in these villages.

“In Kampung Mundai, water entered 15 houses, rising to about one and a half inches and victims have since been evacuated to the Kampung Mundai community hall.

“At 8 am, a temporary evacuation centre opened for a total of 16 affected people, including children, ,” said an APM spokesman.

He said the roads in the village are still connected and vehicles are able to pass through, adding that by 9.30 am, water levels had started to recede.

“Meanwhile in Kampung Simpok, roads have been cut off by rising water.

“By 6 am, a notice from the Siburan District Disaster Committee was issued to open up a temporary evacuation centre at SK St Peter, Simpok.
