KUCHING: The Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) is focussed on developing the state, said Senior Minister (Works) Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof.
“We don’t poke our noses into other people’s business,” he said when asked to comment on the Sabah snap election today (Sunday).
Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Shafie Apdal dissolved the state legislative assembly last Thursday paving the way for a snap election to resolve the political impasse besetting the state after former chief minister Tan Sri Musa Aman claimed he had enough support to form a new government.
“Sabah is Sabah, Sarawak is Sarawak. What’s important is that we take care of Sarawak ourselves.
“Don’t follow what is happening in Sabah or Malaya. In Sarawak, we should be united,” he said when asked on the impact that Sabah snap election would have on Sarawak.
The Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) senior vice-president advised Sarawakians to always remember the call by former chief minister, late Pehin Sri Adenan Satem and the current Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg to always be united in taking care of the state.
“When we are united, we will be able to drive the state towards developed state status in 2030.
“This is our aim. We are already in a state of stability, so don’t mess it up.
“Of course, there are some people trying to set up political parties, etc…, but we should learn from the series of events that happened in Malaya and Sabah,” he added.
Responding to a local elected representative who openly stated his stance to not contest in the 12th Sarawak election, Fadillah said such was the culture nurtured in PBB.
“He did not want to be re-nominated because he understood that his time has come and wanted to give way to new and young leaders,” he said.
On July 8, Kalaka assemblyman Datuk Abdul Wahab Aziz announced his withdrawal from the political arena and wished not to be re-nominated to contest in the next state election.
