BALINGIAN: Local community and non-governmental organisation (NGO) leaders have been urged to play their respective roles in helping to contain the spread of Covid-19.

Balingian assemblyman Abdul Yakub Arbi said they had to work closely with various agencies as the public now were frontliners as well.

“We have to be strict in practising the new normal such as complying with the standard operating procedure (SOP) wherever we are, either in public places or even at home,” he said when closing the Sepakat@Komuniti Pembudayaan Norma Baharu:Putuskan Rantaian Covid-19 programme at Kampung Lintang community hall here today.

Abdul Yakub said if an individual did not comply with SOP, he was not only putting his own life at risk but the lives of the community as well.

The programme featured talks on matters pertaining to Covid-19, which was presented by Mukah District Police Headquarters head of Crime Prevention and Community Security Department, Insp Ebeni Mohamad and Mukah Division Department Health Education officer Patricia Elisha Jonoi.

It was organised by Balingian Information Department and attended by about 100 people.

Assistant Sarawak Information director Robin Junang, who represented the state director, Kampung Lintang ketua kaum Hairi Manggali, Nur Hidayah Kassim, who represented Mukah District officer and Balingian sub-district information officer Matsukarmi Suani also attended the event.
