SIBU: Members of the public, especially those in Selangau, are advised to follow strictly the standard operating procedure (SOP), including the mandatory use of face mask in crowded area.
It was responsibility of everyone to prevent further spread of Covid -19, said Tamin assemblyman Christopher Gira.
He said the government has made it compulsory, effective August 1, to wear face masks inside public transport, crowded public spaces, and areas where social distancing is impossible.
“Thus, I appeal to people, especially in Selangau strictly follow standard operating procedure (SOP) including use of face mask.
“Wearing face masks could prevent the spread of the virus,” he said when contacted on Monday (August 3).
Apart from wearing face masks, he said the people must practise physical distancing, good hygiene and wash hands regularly.
Recently, Senior Ministry (Security) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob announced the compulsory use of face masks in crowded public areas and public transport starting August 1.
Speaking at a press conference in Kuala Lumpur, he said those who failed to comply with the new rules could face a fine of up to RM1,000.
