KUCHING: Demak Laut assemblyman Dr Hazland Abang Hipni on Monday distributed food aid to 159 families in Taman Mesra Bako, which is currently under the enhanced movement control order (EMCO).
The food aid was handed over by a representative of the Demak Laut Service Centre to Penghulu Lair Salleh and Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Taman Mesra Bako Branch women leaders.
Dr Hazland said this food aid was an initiative to help ease the burden of Taman Mesra Bako residents in the face of the EMCO.
“Throughout the EMCO from Apr 18 to May 1, all residents of Taman Mesra Bako are not allowed to exit and enter, including purchasing food or going to work.
“The implementation of Covid-19 active case detection (ACD) in Taman Mesra Bako has resulted in an increase in Covid-19 cases.
“Realising the issues faced by the residents, I requested the Demak Laut Service Centre to send food aid immediately to Taman Mesra Bako to ease the burden of the residents there,” he said.
The food aid distributed will fulfil the needs of the residents for two weeks.
On Sunday, the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) made the decision to impose the EMCO at Taman Mesra Bako due to the increase in positive Covid-19 cases in the area.
