KUCHING: Five hundred underprivileged families in Kuching, Samarahan and Sri Aman received food baskets worth RM100 each from Sarawak Volunteers on Monday (May 24).
Sarawak Volunteers, a non-profit volunteering platform run by trained and experienced youth volunteers, said the programme was carried out under its “My Gawai & My Ramadhan” annual charity programme launched in 2014.
Food essentials including bags of rice donated by Petroliam Nasional Berhad (Petronas) were handed over to the poor families at a collection centre at Jalan Samariang.
The handing over ceremony was witnessed by advisor of Sarawak Volunteers, Fazzrudin Abdul Rahman and Petronas Sarawak senior manager, Norazibah Md Rabu.
“We hope our small gesture will bring joy and happiness to these families during the festive seasons. Last year, we distributed food including “bubur lambuk” and dates to 1,050 recipients from underprivileged families in Kuching and Samarahan,” said Fazzrudin.
“Our patron, Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof thanks Petronas for its contribution and willingness to partner with Sarawak Volunteers in helping the underprivileged families. He hopes this cooperation will continue in future for the benefit of Sarawakians.”
Meanwhile, Norazibah, who represented Petronas Sarawak’s general manager Zulaihi Mohd Mantail, thanked Sarawak Volunteers for the opportunity to be part of the programme this year.
“At Petronas, we strive to implement holistic and sustainable Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programmes that focus on addressing the needs of the community and are centred on three key pillars, namely community wellbeing and development, education as well as environment.
“This collaboration is in addition to Petronas’ signature ‘Sentuhan Kasih Petronas’ programme which is conducted through Yayasan Petronas as well as other welfare programmes via its subsidiary companies at various regions in Sarawak. It showcases Petronas’ support to the needy during festivals and especially during the Covid-19 pandemic,” she said.
