MIRI: The Women Entrepreneurs and Professional Association Sarawak (WEPS) yesterday joined other caring members of the community in supporting the government and frontliners in combating Covid-19, especially during the current second phase of the movement control order (MCO).
Four members led by president, Serawa Budol went early morning to buy food items which they later handed them to the Miri Hospital for use by frontliners who are battling Covid-19.
The money was donated by the association members. The balance was handed to the Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) here which is coordinating efforts to buy necessities for the needy hard hit by the MCO had been extended to April 14.
“During this trying time, where every help is required to support the MCO and government efforts to curb the spread of Covid-19, WEPS likes to contribute in a small way by donating food items for the frontliners in appreciation of their relentless efforts to treat patients and stop the disease from affecting more people.
“As part of our community service, WEPS also supports the political leaders and local community leaders in reaching out, especially to the needy who are hard hit by the challenges associated with the Covid-19 pandemic,”Serawa told the media yesterday.
WEPS is a non-governmental organisation (NGO) based in Miri. Set up in 1996, its objectives, among other things, are to consolidate members’ abilities to enhance their capabilities in business or their professions which subsequently, would allow them to share their skills and knowledge with their respective communities.
Serawa added that the donation was the first project of the exco members elected during the 8th Biennial General Conference on March 8.
She said in view of the global threats by Covid-19, the committee had yet to meet to discuss in details activities proposed for this year.
Among the proposed activities are development talks for members and the public, study visits, members/get-together night, and talks on business opportunities and current issues.
