BINTULU : Food operators need to be sensitive to aspects of hygiene to ensure the quality of the food they prepare is of the set standard.

Tanjong Batu assemblyman Johnny Pang Leong Ming added that food operators or caterers must ensure food safety and environmental cleanliness.

“We cannot ignore this because food safety is about everyone’s health.

“There are many things to pay attention to when running a restaurant, such as washing hands before and after cooking, choosing fresh and clean ingredients, ensuring that the environment and food hygiene standards in the store are met and that the ingredients are stored well, etc,” he said.

He said this while speaking at the 35th anniversary celebration dinner and the presentation of educational incentives for the Bintulu Section Coffee Shop and Restaurant Traders Association at Dinner World Restaurant here on Thursday night.

The Tanjong Batu assemblyman also called on new restaurant operators to register as members of the association.

“This is because the association is the best platform to connect and unite the food industry for the sake of common interests, including reflecting the demands and voices of the community, disseminating and receiving the right new laws and information related to restaurants and so on.

“Therefore, I also strongly encourage new restaurants that have opened in recent years to join the association,” he said.

Also present were Bintulu Divisional Coffee Shop and Restaurant Traders Association chairman, Donny Hii and Special Officer to Bintulu MP, Steven Kong Kai Seng.
